Amla

Amla is a small size deciduous plant that grows in tropical conditions. The height of the plant may vary from 8-18 meter. It is a flowering plant that belongs to the family of ‘Phyllanthaceae’. It is also called as 'Indian Gooseberry'. The trunk of the plant is crooked and has wide spreading branches. The flowers are greenish yellow in colour and the fruit is almost spherical in shape with pale yellow colour. The taste of Amla is sour and contains fiber that is required for the human body. Amla is one of the natural sources of vitamin C. Raw Amla fruit is useful in making pickles.Amla-The plant of worship:
In India, Amla has great importance as plant of worship. People offer prayer to the plant, especially in the month of marga shirsha. In Sanskrit, it is called as Amalaki which means ‘the fruit where goddess of prosperity presides’. People believe that Amla was born from the tears of Lord Brahma.
